I think that very few of us actually ask ourselves something regarding aims and assessment practices, or how the first affects the second. How do you ask yourself those kind of questions if you barely have time to explain the activities, deliver the material and keep the class working???
Hi Claudia,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you ...Sometimes we are such in a hurry, worried about so many things that we forget the most important thing in a class( and in life I dare to say) that is the PURPOSE of it.
But we are human beings, so how can we leave aside our own needs, families, personal probles, health, stomachs, weather preferences and all that bag that we carry in our backs everyday to see the purpose of our class?
Difficult i guess....
isn't it?
Thank u
vicky
I guess we have to start from mundane questions. For example, am I self confident enough to teach my children how to be confident? I'm not talking about teaching only at the linguistic level, but also at the we-are-humans-level. I think we first need to understand ourselves (do I have enough knowledge about myself to transfer to others???), have clear our goals in life, and have clear our beliefs as somebody said last term. Then, after your own convictions are firmly settled, you need to have clear whether I guess we are able to teach or not. Finally, with all your political, yes political, convictions we carry. What goals are we intended to set if we have to care about even about their toilet issues in 4th secondary? I guess there's somebody not doing the big job, parents? Let’s invite them to understand how to set their own goals to carry out ours properly.
ReplyDeleteI'm beating around the bush, just ignore this.
best! :)
Hi Claudia,
ReplyDeleteI feel exactly the same about the topic. It so naive to think that keeping all the administrative tasks along with preparing materials and carrying out a good lesson are compatible if we have barely enough time to photocopy some worksheets. It feels so frustrating to feel that we just go through each lesson, each day, each month...
So my question is: Do we wait for school workng conditions to change or just stop having a private life and do everything we cannot do at school in our homes?
